Maniac (2012) Review

Maniac tells the tale of frank, a man who refurbishes manikins, murders people and is psychologically damaged due to his traumatizing childhood. When he murders people he scalps them and puts their hair on his manikins. One day a woman comes to take pictures of his prized possessions and he soon falls in love with her, but he is crazy and that leads to a whole lot of crazy, gory and interesting scenes, which ended up making a fantastic movie.

The Acting in the movie is very good, there are allot of great performances especially from Elijah Wood, he is a fantastic killer. Although most of the movie is shot from a POV angle, he does a great job as a frightening and damaged serial killer. His co-stars are all very good and the acting was overall very good.

The cinematography is phenomenal the use of POV camera angels really work out well and give the film a very disturbing point of view, mostly through the eyes of the killer. Which is very interesting to see since it's done so well.

The effects are fantastic, there is allot of practical gore and some pretty brutal death scenes. The special effect and prop guys really out did themselves for this movie, especially since the original film from 1980 had such fantastic effects by the legend Tom Savini.

The movie was very original, but had ideas taken from the original. It wasn't a shot by shot remake of the original slasher classic, which was cool to see because I personally think remakes are getting very bland. But this one worked very well. The story was great, the acting was awesome and the effects were very impressive. The POV view in the film gave it a very dark look and it's an overall fantastic horror movie I would give it a 9/10.
